"M. F. McILVAINE & CO., Manufacturers of Mattresses, Spring Beds Etc.. 206 and 208 Milam Street. The old stuffy feather beds of our ancestors are now generally discarded and are no longer considered essential to comfort. A well made spring bed or mattress, constructed according to approved modern methods, is far superior, and at the same time is much more cleanly and convenient. The business carried on by Messrs. M. F. Mcllvaine & Co. was inaugurated December, 1892, and already has demonstrated indications of a pronounced and permanent success. The premises occupied are con- tained in a two-story building of 50x100 feet. Here all required tools and appliances are available and from eight to a dozen skilled work-people are given employment. The firm are manufacturers of mattresses, spring beds and bedding supplies gener-ally. In the manufacture of these goods the greatest care is exercised as to detail to ensure the very best quality of raw material, the best workmanship and superiority in the general character of the product. Altogether it may be said of the goods made and sold here, that they are, in all their essentials, equal to the best on the market; at the same time the prices are based upon a scale of fairness and moderation which induces a permanent and satisfactory patronage. The range of products here turned out includes woven wire mattresses, spiral spring beds, all grades of mattresses, mos-quito bars, pillows, comforters, cots, etc. The trade of the house, while largely local, also extends to neighboring sections and is steadily increasing. Mr. M. F. Mcllvaine is a gentlemen of thorough experience in all that pertains to the business, and he exercises the closest care and supervision over all the operations. As illustrating the growing diversity and expansion of the industries of this city, we are glad to accord a measure of our space in this volume to this young and enterprising concern."
