" B. R. Davis & Co. -- Furniture and Carpets; Market Street between Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth -- This has been the firm name and designation of this house since 1866. Mr. B. R. Davis, now deceased, had been in the furniture trade here from 1852, so that the house really dates its establishment from that year, and is the oldest in the furniture trade here. Mr. J. P. Davis is now sole manager, the remaining interests being held by Mrs. A. F. and Miss Anna Davis. B. R. Davis & Co. do a local and state trade, handling a complete line of furniture, carpets, matting, and in fact, all kinds of house furnishings except stoves and tinware. Some little manufacturing is also done, mostly mattresses, office desks, bookcases, etc. The employees of the house, clerks, cabinet-makers, sewing girls, etc. number eighteen, which figure is itself an indication of the business done by it. Mr. Davis enjoys the bulk of the local trade in the goods he handles."
