Hill Texas Archive Research Notes
Jacob Obert born in 1817 in Sulzbach, Baden, emigrated in 1847 as early settler of New Braunfels, and died in 1902. He was one of the "Forty" (Die Vertziger) who founded the communistic community of Bettina on the Llano River. He was probably trained as a graduate building craftsman in Germany, as he brought a number of tools to Texas. His tool chest indicates contained a variety of tools including carpentry, blacksmithing, stone masonry, and leather working.
