Hill Texas Archive Research Notes | GHF curator points out that the name on the sampler, "Sweeny" is misspelled. In addition, as Sweeney is Matilda's married name, she should have been more skilled at needlework by marriage age. This leads to the possibility that the sampler may have been created by someone else and then presented to Sweeney as a gift. |
