Description | Baby dress worn by Juanita Sweetman, 1894. Cotton, crochet lace is machine constructed, square yoke with round ruffle on top. Feather stitch embroidery on neck edge, waist, sleeves on binding and along bodice ruffle. Seams selvage is turned and whipped. Sleeves-raw edge seams. Bodice - three vertical crocheted bands separated by two vertical sections of four tucks. Back - two crocheted bands and two sections of tucks. Bottom of garment - nine tucks, horizontal crocheted band, five tucks, crocheted edging. Tag attached to garment is stamped "From the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Taulman" and written says "Baby-dress worn by Juanita Sweetman when a baby, 1894. Her grandmother Mrs. F. A. Taulman made the lace on the dress, also made the dress." |
